We were assigned a task to fill up the writing organiser and then the next was to write down a report on our element chosen keeping in mind the design context.

Report:
Strategic Design Management is the application of various precisely designed strategies in order to increase an organisation’s innovative and competitive qualities. The foundation of these formed strategies lies on external and internal analysis of trends and data which enables to achieve better decisions. This discipline can be practiced by any sort of a company or an organisation. There are various applications such as product branding, product development, corporate identity, corporate branding, operating business models, service delivery and so on.
Designing has a huge importance in today’s scenario. Designing describes the world in a way that’s not open to many perspectives. Building up accurate strategies for them to touch the expected goals, loads of design research and design thinking is involved to construct them. Design research is quite necessary to support the objectives and values of and organisation, to meet the needs of the customers and to create and promote opportunities for diversification and innovation. Design thinking is a five-step process that begins from understanding to defining to idealization to prototyping and then to testing. If this is not done with proper care and planning in today’s world then one product/service would not be able to stand out between other competitors.
Designing is an important element for strategies as focusing on it makes things better for a business when it comes for them to stand out of the box. It promotes innovation productivity, generation of exceptional ideas and becomes and imperative for businesses. Any new strategy for management in the real world stands out when it’s fresh and filled with original insights about the customers and the market and this is only possible through thorough design research and design thinking. These insights that emerge from careful learning and observation can help us to uncover different sorts of opportunities and possibilities in the world which are yet to be discovered.
Strategic designing is crucial for management as it is not easy for businesses and organisations to survive in today’s dynamic world. For them to survive and create their own standing in today’s global and running markets, their offerings to the customer should not just be satisfying but also should be adaptive to the whole world. Strategic design management is becoming increasingly necessary as every day passes because today in the 21st century, the business environment does not only need analysis and business skills but also looks up for exclusive idealizations and creative solutions to cover up the business obstacles.
The next task we got was to finalise 3 questions out of five and then answer those three questions within a word limit of 300 words. Here are my 3 finalised questions:
- How has the enormous and constant change in technology stroked on to the business strategies to change themselves?
Given the rapid advances and the increased reliance on technology, the question of how it is changing work and employment is highly salient for scholars of organizational psychology and organizational behavior. Technology has literally changed every aspect of the way any business operates and never before in history has that change occurred so fast.
Technology has transformed business through various aspects like mobile solution, cloud computing, extreme customer segmentation, connectivity, decreasing cost, increasing functionality, change in the consumer base and tastes, decreased downtime and social impact.
Survival of even the most successful organizations cannot be taken for granted. In some sectors of the economy, organizations must have the capability to adapt quickly in order to survive. When organizations fail to change, the cost of failure may be quite high. All organizations exist in a changing environment and are themselves constantly changing.
More and more small businesses that fail to adapt to the changing times and are going to find themselves left behind while the revolutionary ones who learn to keep up will reap the rewards. One doesn’t have to rebuild their business from the ground but just have to understand how technology affects your business and how to apply advancements in order to play them to their advantage. Technology is quite dynamic wave, either one can ride it or just fall out.
- In what manner are the business strategies to be modified when a company adds on the online platform for its customers?
“A transformation won’t succeed without broad involvement” -Patti Sanchez
Organisational change is one of the riskiest, most earth-shaking things a company can go through. But a successful reorganisation can set itself on the path to future success like nothing else can. It’s a radical move, but often it is the only way towards development, whether a company is struggling or looking to maintain its momentum. A reorganisation requires not only vision but also flawless execution of the strategies.
Indeed, employees from all levels have to be included in every stage of the organizational change in order to make it successful. The organisation can keep their employees updated of the changes and the get real time feedback from them and also keep an open gate for proposals or innovative notions. Incentives could also be another aspect they could bring in.
Focus for the development of strategies should be on certain approaches like advertising, avoid price wars, simplify product and marketing, know customer needs and maintain a bond with them, aim at better customer experience and build a large community of customers.
The number of online platforms has spiked in recent years. They have modest operating costs because they don’t usually manufacture tangible goods. Launch is both the most exciting moment and the most problematic. For online platform businesses, customer mobilization challenges at large, every prospective user reasonably fear of wasting time and resources by signing up for a service that may fail to gain power. The problem cannot be solved at an easy pace or cost but by using the right strategies, entrepreneurs can improve their odds of a successful launch.
- How has covid-19 affected the business strategies today in terms of modification and what impact have these modifications made?
The pandemic is causing widespread concern and economic hardship for consumers, businesses and communities across the globe. The major area of concerns for the businesses are crisis management and response, workforce, operations and supply chain, finance and liquidity, tax and trade, and strategy.
Most companies already have business continuity plans, but those may not fully address the fast-moving and unknown variables of an outbreak like COVID-19. Typical, intricate and immediate contingency are needed to be taken into account to keep up with the widespread quarantines, business and community disruptions, and added travel restrictions of a global health emergency like this one.
The organisations will have to begin from research by focusing on different portions like ongoing geographic trends, physical store vs. eCommerce performance, impact of major announcements to understand future shifts, local search terms in lock-down areas, open opportunities as consumer attention shifts online, change in the buying trends.
Moving on, they will have to adapt to new strategies to keep up with the requirements of the crisis by anticipating consumer needs, leveraging technology so that they can be present in the digital world because during the times of lock-down the most time spent by people is on electronic devices. They will have to pay emphasis on customer experience more than ever and transform into a purpose-led brand to stand out in the period of universal catastrophe.
After getting done with these, the next task was to write down a final paper in which is our 15th week submission.
The Final Paper is available at the following drive link: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1u9KTC9r8j_mtC3AJwkBRFfvMvPX-3g7t
Reflection:
- Filling up the writing organiser didn’t take a lot of time, what actually took time was the part where i had to sought out matter to fill in it. The most interesting part for me was when i linked the answers to the three sub questions.
- Writing down the report was quite a task for me and i am still not sure if i have done it right because i wasn’t able to get what is the actual requirements of the report. Report to m e was less research and more based on what you think.
- Answering the three final question of my own was what i really liked doing. It took a lot of research as the questions were more based on practical experiences and different perspectives. The third question, in context to Covid-19 was my most favorite one because it is what we are all going through and can witness.
- Writing down the final paper took me 4 hours straight. I am not sure if i finished it soon or i took a lot of time but okay, it works. Even the final paper took a lot of research as the topic chosen is an on-going crisis and as everyday passes there are more and more updates from all over and thus, latest changes and updates were a major part of the research. The most difficult part from me was the bibliography. It turned out to be quite easy when i got a hold of it after viewing some examples otherwise it was all messed up in my head earlier.
- Doing this project was quite fun and insightful. At the beginning when were asked to make the mind maps i wasn’t really sure if this one was going to be an interesting one but it turned out all opposite. What made this project more interesting to me was the topic i had chosen- Covid-19 because our recent days are all about it, our heads are filled up with what’s going or related to it, the people have changed their lifestyles due to this and so on. The best outcome of this project for me was a better understanding of the discipline i am going into. Being Strategic Design Management a new field and one not much heard about it was really risky for me to get into it it without knowing the details but this project made it a lot clearer for me to what this discipline actually requires and is all about. To conclude, it was a great one!
